AMAS ANNUAL MEETING
ANCHORAGE, AK, FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2007
MINUTES
President Amy Samuel, CMA, called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. The AAMA National Speakers Bureau Representative, Linda Brown, CMA, AAMA Vice-President and member of the New Jersey Society, also attended as a guest.
A quorum of four out of six members was established.
The creed was recited.
The minutes from the April 30, 2006, meeting were read by Secretary
Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, and the minutes were approved by the membership.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The treasurer’s report was given. Balance on hand April 27, 2007, was $6,127.29.
CORRESPONDENCE
The following correspondence was received by President Amy Samuel, CMA. See attached.
1. email from a prospective member and Amy’s response
2. memo from Linda Brown stating that Linda Brown is the AAMA representative assigned to Alaska for the annual state convention meeting
3. memo from David Knight regarding contributions from state societies to support the continuing education workshops at national convention
4. memo from Rebecca Walker with the February Board of Trustee meeting highlights
5. memo from Mary Dyer regarding nominations for national officers and a memo asking for questions that can be asked of candidates
6. memo from David Knight regarding inactive chapters
7. letter from Boni Bruntz stating that Alaska is entitled to 2 delegates for the AAMA annual convention for 2007
8. certificates received at national convention in September 2006: Certificate of Achievement for student membership recruitment, Certificate of Achievement for membership retention, and certificate recognizing the Alaska Society for its contributions to the Maxine Williams Scholarship Fund and the Surveyor Training Fund.
CHAPTER REPORTS
Anchorage Chapter Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that the Anchorage Chapter has not been actively meeting, but several members have been busy working on state convention. A meeting is planned for May. Members attending state convention will be surveyed regarding best meeting times.
Interior Chapter Interior Chapter met in March and elected new officers. They will meet again in the fall.
Kenai Peninsula Chapter Officially inactive.
Mat-Su Chapter Officially inactive.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Budget/Finance Yolanda Henshaw, CMA, submitted a proposed budget for 2007-2008.
Bylaws Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, reported that state bylaws are in compliance with national bylaws.
Convention Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported. Approximately 35 participants attended the Friday CEU sessions and approximately 40 are registered for Saturday’s sessions. Full report to follow after completion of convention.
Education Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that 20 participants attended the state seminar in November 2006. Speakers were excellent, and approximately $1200 was added to the state society’s funds.
Historian no report
Public Affairs Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC, reported that there are no legislative issues at this time that impact medical assistants.
Membership/Strategic Planning no report
Marketing no report
Credentials Yolanda Henshaw, CMA, reported that she has not received a 2007 roster from national. Linda Brown reported that national has had some computer problems that has impacted their ability to send out current rosters, but that Yolanda should receive one within the next few weeks.
Scholarship Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that Danielle Cenkush, a student at UAA, received the state scholarship.

NEW BUSINESS
The following officers were elected:

Vice-President: Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P
Secretary: Robin Wahto, RN, CMA
Treasurer: Kathleen Snell, CMA, CLPlb
Amy Samuel, CMA, suggested that the society develop some type of electronic communication – a place where members and potential members can communicate and network. Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC, volunteered to investigate possibilities, costs, and upkeep of such an electronic forum.
The Interior Chapter volunteered to host the 2008 Alaska Medical Assistant Society Convention.
The proposed budget was discussed and approved as amended.
Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, moved to elect Amy Samuel, CMA, President, and Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, Vice President, as delegates to the national 2007 AAMA House of Delegates meeting. Christa Bartlett, CMA, CCS-P, and Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, were elected as alternates.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 a.m.
