ALASKA MEDICAL ASSISTANT SOCIETY Executive Board Teleconference Meeting Minutes

March 12, 2007

 

Amy Samuel, CMA, President, called the Alaska Medical Assistant Society Executive Board teleconference meeting to order at 12:04 p.m. A quorum was established.   The AAMA Creed was read.

 

Minutes from the previous AMAS Executive Board Meeting were read and corrected.

 

Treasurer's Report

 

Treasurer Yolanda Henshaw, CMA, reported that AMAS has $6246.69 on hand.   Yolanda presented the check for state convention which was returned from the bank as NSF, but funds were not available.  She also attempted to contact the individual, but was unsuccessful.

 

Correspondence

Amy Samuel, CMA, reported the following correspondence:

            1.  An email from an office in Anchorage announcing an opening for front office.

            2.  An email from a student at Career Academy inquiring about membership in AMAS.

            3.  Highlights of the February Board of Trustees meeting.

            4.  Request from Mary Dyer for questions to ask candidates at national convention.

            5.  Request from Kathy Langley for support of educational programs at national.

            6.  Memo from David Knight in regards to the active/inactive status of chapters.

            7.  Notification from national office that Alaska is allowed 2 delegates at national.

8. Notification that Linda Brown, CMA, AAMA Vice President, will be the National Speakers Bureau representative to the AMAS state     convention.

 

Chapter Presidents' Reports

 

Interior Chapter          Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC, reported that the Interior Chapter met in early March and elected officers and plan to meet on a regular basis with CEUs offered.

 

Kenai Chapter             Amy Samuel, CMA, notified David Knight at AAMA that the Kenai Chapter did not wish to continue at this time, and the chapter has officially been disbanded.

 

Mat-Su Chapter          Amy Samuel, CMA, notified David Knight at AAMA that the Mat-Su Chapter did not wish to continue at this time, and the chapter has officially been disbanded

 

Anchorage Chapter     Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that the Anchorage chapter is not actively meeting, but she and a couple other members are busy planning state convention.     

 

Mendenhall Chapter   The Mendenhall Chapter was officially disbanded in 2006.

 

Committee Reports

Budget and Finance                Yolanda Henshaw, CMA       No specific report.

Bylaws                                    Robin Wahto, RN, CMA reported that bylaws are in compliance with national bylaws.

Convention Committee           Tabled to New Business.                   

Education Committee             Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P – no report since seminar in November which was reported at December 2006 Executive Board meeting.

Marketing                                Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC – no report.

Public Affairs                          Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC – no report.

Membership/Strategic Planning          Robin Bumgardner, CMA – no report.

Scholarship                              Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that there were no applications for the scholarship received by the deadline of March 1, 2007.  The board approved the recommendation to extend the deadline to March 30, 2007.  Christa Bartlett will notify UAF students; Robin Wahto will notify UAA students and post the new dates on the AMAS website.

Unfinished Business

There was no unfinished business.

 

New Business

 

State Convention, scheduled for April 27-28, 2007, in Anchorage at the Marriott Residence Inn, was discussed.  Katie Hoffman would like to set up a booth.  Robin will contact her.  CEUs sessions are planned for Friday and Saturday; annual meeting scheduled for Friday evening; banquet scheduled for Saturday evening; and a post convention meeting scheduled for Sunday morning.

 

Amy Samuel, CMA, ordered and has received apparel from national, including polo shirts, sweatshirts, and fleeces.  She will bring them to state convention to sell.  The following prices were established: Polo shirts $28; Sweatshirts $35; fleece $40.
