ALASKA MEDICAL ASSISTANT SOCIETY Executive Board Teleconference Meeting Minutes

August 23, 2006

 

 

 

Amy Samuel, CMA, President, called the Alaska Medical Assistant Society Executive Board teleconference meeting to order at 1:38 p.m. A quorum was established.   The AAMA Creed was read.

 

Minutes from the previous AMAS Executive Board Meeting were not available.

 

Treasurer's Report

 

Treasurer Yolanda Henshaw, CMA, reported that AMAS has $6121.17 on hand.   One check for state convention was returned from the bank as NSF.  Yolanda will call the bank to see if funds are available now.

 

Correspondence

Amy Samuel, CMA received correspondence from AAMA that will be discussed under new business.  Delegates packets have been received by Amy Samuel, CMA, and Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P.

 

 

Chapter Presidents' Reports

 

Interior Chapter          Amy Samuel, CMA, reported that the Interior Chapter has been inactive    over the past year, but plans are being made to get the chapter active again.

 

Kenai Chapter             No report.

 

Mat-Su Chapter          Yolanda Henshaw, CMA, reported that the Mat-Su Chapter is inactive at   this time.

 

Anchorage Chapter     Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that the Anchorage chapter is inactive at this time.

 

Mendenhall Chapter   No report.

 

Committee Reports

Convention Committee           Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, reported that she sent an email to Debbie Standefer, CMA, Kenai Peninsula Chapter, to let her know that AMAS state convention 2007, per routine rotation, is scheduled to be hosted by Kenai Peninsula Chapter.  Robin has not heard back from Debbie Standefer, CMA.                   

Education Committee             Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that she is planning a state educational seminar in Anchorage, and is considering November 4 or November 11.

Marketing                                Christa Bartlett, CMA, CPC, reported that she has worked with the Fairbanks newspaper for an article on Medical Assisting.

Scholarship                              Molly Kretchik, CMA, CCS-P, reported that there will not be any changes to the scholarship application; just the dates will need to be changed on the application that is on the website.

Unfinished Business

Amy Samuel, CMA, will contact Debbie Standefer, CMA, Kenai Peninsula Chapter, to see if Kenai Peninsula Chapter is able to host the state convention in the spring of 2007.

 

Robin Wahto, RN, CMA, will update the scholarship dates on the website.  She also will change the contact section for each chapter so that one person is listed for each chapter.

 

Donations to AAMA in relationship to national convention were reviewed.  Per the April 2006 Post-convention meeting, AMAS will make the following donations:  $100 to Journey House; $200 in support of speakers to national convention; $200 to the Society of Past Presidents.  Amy Samuel, CMA, will present checks while attending national convention.

 

Amy Samuel, CMA, reported that Cathy Langley of the AAMA office contacted her to let her know that Freda Rogers, CMA, had requested that the Mendenhall Chapter be disbanded.  This was discussed by the members present, and Amy will notify Cathy that the Mendenhall Chapter can be disbanded.

 

Amy Samuel, CMA, reported that the Certifying Board has apparel for sale through state presidents.  This includes polo shirts, fleece shirts, caps, umbrellas and sweatshirts.  The members agreed that Amy should order a few of the shirts to have available for the society to sell to members and CMAs.
